Ombre hair has to be one of the biggest hair trends of the past year – being seen on nearly every “in” celebrity. I’ll admit that I was not a fan at first, reminded me too much of the eighties (I didn’t like it then), but after seeing it done correctly it grew on me. One of the biggest mistakes (in my opinion) is having too dramatic a shift in color without any graduation between the two. To put it more simply as Wendy Williams said during one of her hot topic dishes – when the ohm doesn’t quite connect with the brey!
Here’s a bit of inspiration from some ladies, some I think got it right while some missed the mark – but you may love it.
Not a fan of non “natural” hair colors – pink, blue, yellow, clown red, so although she does have some graduation to help the black transition to purple, this is a complete miss for me.
Ciara has gotten the look right, but this one right here? No ma’am, simply looks like you were too lazy to dye your roots. But a lot of BHM’ers liked it! So hey, what do I know?
Am I the only one who sees Naomi Cambell’s hair and can only think of those horrifying photos that hit the net showing her completely bald edges? I really feel badly for her, no one should have their hair business put on front street like that! But anyway, getting back to her ombre look – Naomi did an okay job, it is a bit inconsistent all over though.
I absolutely adore Keke Palmer’s take on the ombre. The hair fades from one tone to the next flawlessly and the soft down-to-there curls are just the icing on the cake!
I like that Raven Symone’s look is a bit different instead of the normal black to blonde, it fades into an auburn red! I see you rocking your ombre Extension Plus hair (she’s admitted to loving the brand)! Very nice Ms. Symone.
Honestly, Khloe Kardashian is one of the best to do it in my humble opinion. Plus her ombre tresses are a refreshing change from the dark looks of all her siblings!
If you are interested in achieving this look at home, here is a simple tutorial by one of my favorite DIY hair gurus, Tierra aka TeasedBlackPearlz. I think the key to getting the perfect transition is to dye the hair a medium color then lighten the lower portions.

Most like Khloe ,her hair style is amazing!
wait a minute .. are u saying that khloe is african american?
I like Keke’s the best. But at the least my TWA is, ombre would look a ratchet mess! LOL
Khloe’s is my favorite…. and I kinda like the haphazard look that Naomi has as well. Great post!
