Gone are the days when kids could play
outside until the sun went down. Remember going down the
street to a friend's house by yourself to play when you were young?
How about walking to the neighborhood corner store? Walking
home from school? In this day and time, those days are no
more. We cannot let our kids out of our sight because of the
increasing number of child predators out there.
Over
800,000 children are reported missing in the United States each
year.
Here are just a
few tips to tell your child to help you keep him/her safe:
1. Never
get into anyone's car without permission
2. Be taught that it's all right to say 'no' to an adult if the
person
wants them to do something you've taught them is wrong
3. If someone tries to get them to help finding something or
someone, tell them to say "no" and get away from the
person--grownups do not need to ask little kids for help
4. Never say they are alone if they answer the phone: they can offer
to take a message or say their parents will phone back
5. Run
home or go to the nearest public place and yell for help if
they are being followed
6. Move
away from a car that pulls up beside them
There are lots of
things you can do as a parent to help protect the safety of your
child. Always keep an updated picture of your
child and invest in an ID kit and get their fingerprint, and keep
dental records. For information on how to purchase an ID kit,
