As I begin this post, I pray you are not the woman of whom I speak. The one who wears bonnets in public. The woman who rocks rollers outside the confines of her home. Said chick who walks around with her hair wrapped with a grease stained scarf tied around her head. PLEASE tell me that is not you. If it happens to be, please understand that none of the aforementioned are never acceptable. Not if it is late, not if you just had your hair done, not if you are only running to the corner store. Never.
There are plenty of options for looking decent in public if you are having a bad hair day or have not had a chance to finish styling your hair. Head coverings do not have to look homely and unpresentable! Here are a few of my favorite fashionistas from around the net who show you acceptable ways of wearing a hair scarf in public:
Popular YouTube Vlogger, Taren Guy rocks a scarf like nobody’s business. She creates bows, headbands, creative ties – but this look (one of my faves) is the traditionally rear tied bandana look. Simple – one anyone can do – yet still chic and feminine! In fact her Instagram caption for this photo told followers she was running errands this particular day!
Reiko of God’s Favorite Shoes has a plethora of different fabrics, some of which came straight from Ghana by way of her cousin, and whenever she has a bad hair day or was caught in the rain causing her natural tresses to simultaneously shrink and expand, she reaches for one and creates her self titled “Scurban” – a combination of the scarf and turban! Great look Reiko!
Naja Dimond, always the girlie girl, used an animal print scarf to creat a front tied turban. Perfectly beat face, fabulous accessories and a coy smile always keeps any scarf look fashionable. Oh, and did you check her down-to-there ombre extensions? Tres chic Naja!
Chastity Garner, stylist and fashion blogger, always wears complete looks from head to toe. Her natural tresses are styled in a cute bob (think Alicia Keys’ new style before Alicia did it), but from time to time she wraps an eye catching scarf around her mane to create almost a floral looking twist in the front. Add the mod glasses and the look is complete!
So there you have it – women are showing us all the time how you can walk outside of your home in a scarf and not attract looks of disdain, secret snaps of the phone camera to be posted on Twitter later, or disapproving shakes of the head. A bad hair day is not an excuse to look crazy!
