Update Your Look For Fall

update your look for fall

When we move from the sunny, bright days of winter we sometimes hit a slump with our looks.  Along with updating our makeup and nail polish colors, changing your hair can make the transition from summer into fall exciting instead of drab.  Here are five non-damaging suggestions to update your look for fall:

  1. Try something fake!  Sew in weaves, wigs, box braids, cornrows – all are wonderful protective styles that can change your look drastically.  Play with length, don’t be scared to go long, or even short if that is something different for you!  Play with color – add a few clip ins!
  2. Switch your part.  If you part in the center, start parting on the side.  Switch the side of your part.  Instead of doing a slanted swoop bang part, try an extreme side part.  There are quite a few options and it is the easiest way to freshen your look with something new.
  3. Go with a different texture.  I wear a lot of textured styles – braidouts, twistouts, bantu knot outs so whenever I wear a smooth, sleek style it is a refreshing change.  Altering the texture that you normally wear your hair helps to usher in the colder weather with a refreshingly different look.
  4. Go jet black.  This is usually a pretty subtle change for most African American women as our natural hair color is often a shade of black or dark brown, but it can instantly give you a glamorous look that is very appropriate for the fall and winter months.  Black hair is easily achieved with a temporary, non-damaging rinse.
  5. Bang yourself!  Faux, clip in bangs are very realistic and affordable.  You can have side swept or blunt bangs instantly without allowing scissors anywhere near your hair.

Of course these tips do not have to only be used to update your look for fall, but can be used any time you feel the need to change, update or freshen up your look.  The best part is they are temporary and do not cause any damage to your hair or disrupt your regular maintenance hair regimen.
