Big Hair, Don’t Care: Ways to Get Mega Volume!

I’m from New Jersey, the land of big hair.  Wendy Williams, the Real Housewives of New Jersey, Snooki, Jerseylicious, even the late great Whitney Houston – we all have one thing in common aside from our geographical roots and that is our love of big, fluffy hair!  Even if you were born with thin, fine strands there are ways to get mega volume in your hair that will give you red carpet ready looks!

Add extensions.

If you don’t have it, fake it!  You can find some very affordable clip-in hair extensions that are easy to place and give a temporary voluminous look.  Normally clip-ins are sold in packages of 8-10 pieces of varying widths that you can disperse evenly throughout your head for a natural appearance.  Clip and gently blend your hair with the additions and you have instant glamour.

Get Layers

Hair that is one length is beautiful in its own right but there is something about layers that add drama and movement to a style.  You can go extreme with a razor cut or have subtle angled layers added but I guarantee your hair will look fuller once complete.

Try a rollerset

Heat styling is great for sleek tresses but for extra oomph! try setting your hair on rollers for lift at the roots and added volume.  If you don’t have time to start the process with wet hair, simply add a few in the center of your head, blast with a diffuser to set for about 10 minutes and remove.  Your hair will have lift, movement and height!

Spray and Hold

Not that I am trying to take you back to the ‘80s but once you achieve the amount of volume you desire, to give it lasting power you should use some styling products.  Look for a flexible hold hairspray, preferably alcohol free so as not to dry out your strands and hold about six inches away from your hair and gently spray evenly around the style.  Now you are all set to go out with va va voom volume!

  1. I wore a straight flat wrap all through my 20’s, now I must admit big hair just looks better on my face.
