Last Sunday, 300 naturals flocked to Free Candy in Brooklyn, NY to attend the highly anticipated event, Mane Attraction: His Voice, Her Hair. The event was organized by the beautiful and fly women of The Curly Girl Collective — Julienne, Tracey, Melody, Charisse, Gia, and Simone — and sponsored by Eden BodyWorks. And much like their are other creative brain children, it stood out among the rest. Mane Attraction featured a panel centered on the conversation on men, women, and their hair. The panel was comprised of some heavy hitters: Cipriana Quann of Urban Bush Babes, Franchesca “Chescaleigh” Ramsey, Slim Jackson of Single Black Male, and Jozen Cummings of Until I Get Married.
The creative title and outstanding lineup garnered a RSVP list of about 1,000 people, which far surpassed their expectations. According to Melody Henderson, CGC Creative Director, “One of our core brand equities is creativity. We strive to reinvent ourselves each time — giving our fan base something new, different and inspiring. Mane Attraction was a challenge because we didn’t know if men would engage, but we were elated to find out that they where eager and more than ready. We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout. This success allows for the creative juices to start flowing as we concept our next event.”
In addition to a panel, attendees received goodie bags, participated in an interactive mural, took pictures in the photo booth, and told their confessions in the curl confessional. Curly Girl Collective clearly delivered an engaging event to add to the repertoire of events — Curl Crush and Collective Expressions.
Tracey Coleman, Director of Events summed it up well, “The magical part of every event we host is seeing a dream become a reality. As we took the stage and looked out into the crowd, it was an unforgettable moment seeing so many gentlemen in the crowd cheering us on. They had such beautiful and supportive words for us throughout the night, which made all of the work we put into the event totally worth it.”
