How long have you been together? How did you meet? Our dating anniversary is June 2, 1998 making it 15 years ever since we’ve been together. My best friend, Christina introduced us at the bus stop on the corner of Bedford Avenue & Glenwood Avenue by our high school (Midwood), where I initially gave him much attitude.. lol. But 12 years later on March 18, 2011 he proposed to me at the exact same location. We married on our 15 year dating anniversary on June 2, 2013.
How long have you been natural? Why did you go natural? My last relaxer was March 2009. I transitioned for 11 months and did my big chop Feb 2010. I’ve been perm free for 4 years and 100% natural for 3 ½ years. I decided to go natural because I was tired of perming. I remember totally frying my hair with the flatiron to go out only to sweat it out at an event that night. At that point, I was just totally disgusted and bored with my hair. I wanted to try something new. Being a YouYube junkie, the YouTube natural hair community totally inspired me to embark on this new journey and attempt transitioning. May 2009 I did my first flexirod set, I felt so sassy and was still able to be me. I have worn my hair curly ever since. Did you plan on wearing your hair in its natural state on your wedding day? Why or why not? What was your wedding day hairstyle? My vision was a beautiful timeless sexy possible updo that would last the entire day from ceremony and reception in the Jamaica weather. What was your vision for your wedding day? We had a formal destination wedding at Iberostar Rose Hall Suites in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Our ceremony was on the beach. Our colors real tropical aqua blue and fuschia pink. Our theme was Caribbean chic. How did your hairstyle fit into your vision for the day? I wanted my hairstyle to embody the way I felt on my wedding day as well as capture the formal style of our destination wedding – timeless, sexy and chic. Any advice for natural hair brides or brides in general? Your wedding day is a day that should embody beauty: the beauty of your love for your future husband; the beauty of the joy of your family and friends who celebrate with you; the beautiful envision of yourself as the happy bride natural hair or otherwise. It’s your day make it beautiful in your way.
