Product Review: Qhemet Biologics Deluxe “Try Me” Kit

I’m a firm believer that you should try, ask, and research before you buy.  Companies are realizing that consumers want to try products without an expensive commitment, so many are offering trial size products. Recently, Qhemet Biologics launched the Deluxe “Try Me” Kit so that naturals can sample many of the products from their line.  To provide a comprehensive product review, I incorporated the products into my regimen over a couple of weeks — focusing on the products that aligned with my hair’s needs.

According to the product description:

[box_light]Our deluxe mini kit contains 1 each – .68 oz. Amla & Olive Heavy Cream, .68 oz. Burdock Root Butter Cream, .53 oz. Aethiopika Hydrate & Twist Butter, 1 oz. Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee, 1 oz. Moringa Tree Conditioning Ghee, 1 oz. Olive & Honey Hydrating Balm and 1 oz. Honeybush Tea Soft Gel. This kit, which contains all of our conditioners, moisturizers and stylers, allows you to assess the texture, scent and performance of each product on a medium section of thick hair (our products are rich and concentrated so 1-2 finger fulls will get the job done) and test for allergies. Also great for gifting and air travel![/box_light]

Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee

[box_light]Contains pure, prime pressed Cocoa Butter to smooth, soften and seal in moisture, Horsetail, Nettle and Barley to strengthen and condition and sulfur rich MSM to nourish follicles and support growth. Enhanced with carefully selected mild and eco-friendly detangling actives, it instantly restores manageability, pliability and elasticity to matted and tangled hair.[/box_light]

Recently I professed my love for Qhemet Biologics Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee, so I won’t repeat myself.  But do you want to know how much I love that stuff? I contacted both my local natural food store and Qhemet Biologics to get it stocked there.  That way, it would be at my disposal and I wouldn’t have to wait for it to be shipped. Now THAT is love!  After our talks, Qhemet Biologics offered to send me their new Deluxe “Try Me” Kit. I was more than happy to try out the rest of their line. The rule of thumb is …if you love a product from a line, then more than likely you will like their other products as well. And indeed, I did.

Moringa Tree Conditioning Ghee

[box_light]Contains organic, virgin Coconut Oil for lubricity, slip and emollience. Pure Moringa Oil for its smoothing and softening properties. Extracts of Oatstraw and Burdock for their scalp conditioning and soothing properties. Amla, Brahmi and Nettle for their hair conditioning, strengthening and growth properties and MSM for follicular health and nourishment.[/box_light]

The Moringa Tree Conditioning Ghee comes in at a close second.  For me, this product worked best on blown out here. It provided great moisture and prevented tangling. In it’s blown out state, my hair likes to co-mingle and tangle. This product did a great job of limiting tangling without reverting my hair.  It is a thinner consistency than the Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee, so if your strands tend to get weighed down by product, you may prefer this over the Cocoa Detangling Ghee.Recently, I saw a video where it was used for a rod set. Since I  try to find multiple uses for products, I’ll definitely be trying that next.

Amla & Olive Heavy Cream

[box_light]Our ultra thick cream contains Amla, Brahmi and African Aloe, premium Afro-Indian botanicals used for thousands of years to nourish the scalp and strengthen and condition hair. MSM sulfur nurtures follicles and encourages healthy hair growth, Mediterranean Olive Oil delivers emollience and lubricity while Vegetable Glycerin and pure African Castor Oil lends sheen, softness and intense moisture.[/box_light]

Whenever I try new products, I always compare them to my staples.   I used the Amla & Olive Heavy Cream as a twisting cream for my beloved twistout.  I must say, it stacked up pretty well against my staple ,Donna Marie Super Buttercream. In my twisting cream, I like it to be of a heavier consistency. As I twist, I like it to “smoothen” the strands so that the results are smooth and frizz-free. And it did just that. The only reason that I would stick with my staple is because my hair responds really well to Aloe Vera, which is a key ingredient in the Donna Marie Super Buttercream.

Aethiopika Hydrate & Twist Butter

[box_light]Softens thick, extra dry hair with an ultra rich blend of Pure Olive Oil, Mango Butter and Rice Bran Oil! A touch of plant wax helps reduce frizz and smooths edges and soy extract adds humectancy. Use sparingly. A little goes a long way.[/box_light]

If you twist your hair with butter, then I highly recommend this product. It has a nice, smooth consistency for those who like to twist with butters like mango or shea butter.  I personally only use products like this for my edges and to seal my ends. And it worked great for this.  It has a great scent and it melts into the hair.

Honeybush Tea Soft Gel

[box_light]Contains MSM sulfur for follicle and scalp health and nutrient rich, organic Lemongrass, African Honeybush and Redbush extracts (traditional panacea’s prized by the Kho and San peoples) for their moisturizing, conditioning and sheen enhancing properties. Our light, oil-free gel moisturizes thick or thin coils, curls and twists! Provides a soft, light hold. Also use as an oil-free moisturizing leave-in.[/box_light]

I personally don’t use gels, because my hair  hold styles without it, but I tried this product on the finer strands located on my crown.  Because it was a light hold, for me, there wasn’t much added benefit. But what impressed me was that it “played well with others”. Meaning, it worked well with my leave-in and twisting cream. I have experimented with gels in the past and they’ve never ended well. I often ended up with clumps of product all over my head. This was NOT the case with the Honeybush Tea Soft Gel.  The consistency reminded me of flaxseed gel. So if you have been looking for a gel for a twistout, rod set, or wash and go, you might want to give this try.

So there you have it! The products I incorporated into my regimen from the Qhemet Biologics Deluxe “Try Me” Kit.

Have you every tried their products? What did you think?

  6. I’ve been wanting to try like all their products for forever. I’ve only bought the AOHC. It seemed to just sit on my hair, but it did pretty well for my daughter’s one year old tresses. I used the whole thing on her. I want to find something that will moisturized just as well for me. I’m thinking the Burdock Root Butter Cream might be better since its not as thick. I wish the CTDG came in a larger size.

    • I know! I go through my Cocoa Tree so quickly even though I try to be careful. I use it as a leave-in and detangler. I also like the Moringa Tree Conditioning Ghee. It is lighter, but I like it on blown out hair.

  7. I love their products!! I twist with butter and love the Aethiopika Hydrate & Twist Butter. The Olive & Honey Balm moisturizers my hair without buildup or any kind of white residue like other cream moisturizers. This stuff is like honey. And wow, the Castor & Moringa Softening Serum is the best oil serum I have ever used, hands down! It softens, shines, & moisturizes. Love, love, love it for my 4b/c hair!
