Name: Lyne A. The web knows me as “AnointedHeels”.
Hair Name: I haven’t been able to nail a good name to match my hair personality.
Tell us about yourself: I’m a child of the Almighty God, Blessed and Anointed. I have 2 gorgeous baby girls and a dog name Petey. I work as a software engineer. In my free time I blog over at http://anointedheels.com. I sew, make yogurt and of course play in my hair.
How long have you been natural? and why did you go natural? I’ve been natural for a year and a half. I was natural all my life.. but after school I got a job and was convinced that I needed “to do something” with my hair so I relaxed my hair and immediately hate it. I’ve been trying to transition ever since. LOL. I didn’t know about transitioning then. I’ve done some awful things to my hair trying to get it to revert. I would stretch my relaxer 6 months apart and end up caving after that. This went on for six years when I came across an article explaining the effects of relaxer on the hair, so I had come to term with the fact my hair will not revert and I had to get rid of it and start over. I tried to transition again but got a impatient after 4 months and I chopped. Why? The short answer is I did it for my girls.
What is your hair type and texture? I haven’t mastered the ABC of hair typing yet so I don’t know what mine is, but I do know that i have different textures. The side and back are very curly and of normal porosity, medium density. The front to the the crown is highly porous, and doesn’t curl. I even thought it was heat damage. I would keep cutting the straight hair but i come to realize that it just my texture.
What product and techniques work best for your hair/texture? When it come to products, I go with the cheap ones and enhance with oils and butter. I don’t do wash and go so I don’t use a lots of curl enhancing products. I wear my hair mostly in some sort of pin updo or french twist. I let my hair out some week ends in a twist out or braid out.
What is your hair regimen and how does it fit into your busy schedule? I wash my hair every week or as needed. I alternate shampooing with co-washing. I apply oils to my wet hair and pin it down. This could be done on a week day at night. Every other Saturday we deep condition, with a mixture of Aussie Moist, shea butter, honey and EVOO or a mixture of plain yogurt, honey, and EVOO. We dance, play, cook a new recipe, bake cookies, paint our nails and do things around the house while we wait out our deep conditioner. The girls love it.Iit’s our mommy-daughter spa day.
Any additional advice? Educate yourself (youtube, blogs, books), experiment, and find what works for you. I just had a friend come to my house for hair help. She wanted me to do her hair like mine. I did the exact same thing for her as I did for me. Mine came out fabulous and she hated her results. Just because something works me doesn’t mean it will work for you.
