Hair shows and events are popping up around the country.  From major cities to small towns, naturals are gathering to share tips, purchase goodies, and attend workshops.  With so many options at these events, it can get overwhelming. So here are few tips as you navigate  your next hair show…

Socialize and Network

See someone with beautiful hair? Compliment them.  Want to know how they achieved the style? Ask them. Build your support network and stay in touch.  Hair shows and meetups are a great way to make curlfriends who can support you on your journey. Furthermore, you can also make social and business contacts built upon a  common interest in hair.

Ask Questions

When you have natural hair experts and veterans at your fingertips, now is NOT the time to be shy.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions and lots of them!  Raise your hand at workshops. Tap a fellow natural on her shoulder. Ask a vendor to explain how their products should be used in your hair.  You have a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips so don’t walk away without your questions answered.

Scope Out the Workshops

Check out the workshop schedule before you arrive or upon arrival.  Schedule your day around the workshops you would like to attend.  In fact, it would be most beneficial to attend a workshop on “The Basics of Hair Care” or “Products for Your Hair Type” prior to purchasing from vendors.  Armed with new information, you can make more informed decisions.

Research the Vendors

Hair shows provide a great opportunity to purchase and sample products. If it is a product staple, it is a great time to avoid shipping costs. And if you would like to try new products, many vendors have samples available. Samples are a no commitment way to find out if a product line or specific product will work for you. So stuff your bag with tons of samples.

For most hair shows, gift bags are reserved for early registrants, early attendees, or those with VIP admission tickets. If you want to a goodie bag with lots of great samples and coupons, then don’t wait ’til the last minute.
