Ms. Rokia - New Twistout style sweeps

Whether your social media platform of choice is Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, or Instagram, you have probably stumbled upon this new twistout method for natural hair.  First posted by @msrokia on Instagram, it has quickly become a sensation on the web. Weeks after the original post, you can still find the picture and renditions of the style circulating the internet.

This style is such a new take on the traditional twistout! We often try so hard to create new looks, but this shows you that it is as easy as 1-2-3.  When twisting your hair it is important to remember a few things:

  1. The direction you twist your hair will play a major role in how your hair will lay when taken down.  If you want to switch up the look of your twistout, then simply change the direction of your twists!
  2. The use of curl rods, flexi rods, and bantu knots can add soft curls and volume to your twistout.
  3. Separate curls to create a more natural looking curls with lots of volume.

To achieve this style, @msrokia has said on Instagram that she used Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In and Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and flat twisted her hair while wet and let it air dry.  How beautiful is this style?!  More volume is created around the front with this twistout method vs. the traditional.  It is simply gorgeous!

I really could learn about this all day!! Maybe you have an RSS feed I could possibly subscribe to.

I had recently been on the lookout everywhere on the web just for articles associated with allergies sneezing itchy eyes.

How long did they style last and how did you maintain it?? Cant wait to make my sister twist my hair tomorrow night!

Can this style be done with longer hair that is naturally curly. This is a very cute style I’d like to try.

Can this style be done with permed or transitioning hair?

This is beautiful! My hair isnt quite as thick. Is it possible for me to still do this style?

Does hair need to be wet?

al74resting! I didn’t know doing a twist out with flat twist was a “new thing”. I always do mine like this.

Flat twists aren’t necessarily a new thing but the tweak of really thinking about the direction of your twists is. People tend to overlook these types of minor tweaks.

I’ve been doing this. I thought it was common knowledge to know that the direction of the twists controls how your hair will fall. Looks good either way.

Hello, Is there a video on how to do this step by step? Thank you :) It’s beautiful!

BEAUTIFUL…….I was really insecure about the styles that I was going to create with my natural hair but this have given me hope that you can achieve the look you desire with creativity……GO GIRL!!!!!!!!

Can you do this with a press and curl hairdo?

Nice hairdo- can you do this to a press and curl hairdo?

You sure can! It works with relaxed, natural, and pressed hair. it is great for when your press is getting old. It blends the textures and you avoid applying more heat to your hair.

This is lovely. Is there a name for this twistout ?

wow this is great. thanks you ! is there a name for this twist out ?

There is no official name. It is basically a flat twistout with a rod set on the ends. You can change the look by changing the direction of the twists.

How will this work on flat ironed hair>

Yes, this can be used on straight or curly hair. The use of curl rods at the ends of the hair is important for those with straight hair though.

Can this be acheived on relaxed hair?
