Tell us about yourself: I grew up in Pennsylvania but currently reside in Delaware, where I work at a bank and plan on continuing my education. I enjoy spending time with family and friends. Anything creative and exciting seems to keep my attention such as poetry, dancing, and different forms of art.
How long have you been natural? Why did you go natural? I have been natural for nine months and transitioned six months before the Big Chop. February 2013 marks my one year! I decided to go natural because having relaxed hair was such a battle for me. It seemed as if the flat iron and I were always at it in the bathroom and I never won!
What is your hair type and texture? I am still learning my hair texture. I want to say 3C/4A for now. My hair is pretty thick for the most part and seems to suck up moisture pretty fast.
What products and techniques work best for your hair type/texture? I am all for trying something new, but so far I have been using Carol’s Daughter, Entwine, and Shea Butter. Twist outs have seemed to work best for the styles I love to try.
What is your hair regimen and how does it fit into your busy schedule? I seem to get the best results when I wash my hair once a week with Tresemme Naturals and deep condition every weekend with Carol’s Daughter. I prefer to wash in sections to avoid damage and reduce detangling. Two strand twists at night, give me the definition I look for in my styles.
Any additional advice? Patience is the best word to use when it comes to being natural. It was a scary feeling rocking a short length, but I can truly say that the outcome of having strong, healthy hair is worth the wait. Being natural is a wonderful way to express creativity — stepping out of the norm in every way, shape, and form!
