Tell us about yourself: 23yrs old live in Sacramento, Ca. Just Married in mid July. I’m a wardrobe stylist. I love my job! Transforming a person’s image is of how they see themselves and how the world sees them is such a fulfilling experience. I love to shop! I do a lot of volunteer work at hospitals and homeless shelters. Love church! I sing in a gospel group called Duane Johnson and Born Again. I love fashion! My style isn’t just one genre. It all depends on how I feel, what message do i want to send, and who I want to be that day. I love to be both behind and in front of the camera. I enjoy traveling and trying nee things life is to be lived!!
How long have you been natural? I’ve been natural for 5 years now. I haven’t put any chemicals in my hair but i did flat iron my hair a lot. Over 50% of my length was straight pieces so decided that after my wedding I would cut off the straight pieces and start fresh.
Why did you go natural? I went natural because I didn’t want to be a slave to chemicals. It’s way cheaper and healthier. There’s nothing wrong with kinky hair. I just realized that I don’t have to have straight hair to be beautiful.
What is your hair type and texture? 4b for the most part in the back it’s 3b
What products and techniques work best for your hair type and texture? I use shea butter, olive oil and I make hair smoothies for deep conditioning. I do twist and braid outs every other day. Sometimes I wear wigs. I like to be versatile with my looks and they protect my hair. I sleep wild so even though I try to wrap my hair it always comes off. I sleep on a satin pillow. In the morning, I refresh my curls in the morning with gel I make from flax seed.
What is your hair regimen and how does it fit into your busy schedule? I don’t wash my hair. I use co washes and I shampoo quarterly as needed. My husband works late. He gets off 2hrs after me so I usually do my twist out while I’m waiting for my husband to get off work.
Any additional advice? Stay with it. It does get frustrating and tedious but it’s worth. Keep your hair moisturized. You don’t have to wet it everyday to do so. There are a lot of home remedies out there to lock in moisture. Your hair will be its healthiest and you won’t be bound by chemicals. Most of the treatments and styles are simple so you can save money and not have to go to salons. You should seek out different groups in your area to gain knowledge and support. It’s always good to be around people who have similar interests and life styles. Also, if you are lost 9 times out if 10 the solution is on YouTube. Check me out on social media!
