Name: Jennifer
Tell us about yourself. I am a Preschool Teacher and the owner of two small dogs. I am also in the midst of planning my wedding. I used to dance and be very athletic; however, in recent years I find myself at the dog park and at the stove experimenting with recipes much more. In the past 2 months I’ve been working on getting back into the routine of working out and will find myself at the gym 3-4 days a week for about 1-2 hours. I really enjoy dance, yoga and spending time with family and friends.
How long have you been natural? Since Fall 2004. I did a big chop and was down to about 2 inches of hair.
Why did you go natural? I was in college at the time and The Urban Bush Women performed Hair Stories at our university. The show and women inspired me to go natural and plus, I realized, I was getting relaxers every six months—I didn’t need them.
What is your hair type and texture? 3C. It’s very long, thick, curly and manageable only when wet (with globs of conditioner).
What is your hair regimen and how does it fit into your busy schedule? See above. I try to hold off on combing through my hair as long as I can. My arms get tired!! If I’m being really lazy and my hair could use a comb through, a bun is my go-to.
Any additional advice? Wrap your hair up at night. Tuck your hair into a bun every so often, it protects your ends. Try not to keep your hair in tight ponytails to avoid damaging your edges. Trim your ends as often as your hair needs it (4-6 weeks isn’t always a good indicator–for me it’s too soon). I get my hair straightened, at a Dominican salon, once every 2-3 months and that’s when I get it trimmed.

Jennifer – You have a gorgeous heair of beautiful hair!!! THanks for sharing your techniques and advise.
