Tell us about yourself.
I grew up in Delaware, but currently reside in South Florida. I work as a computer repair technician and I enjoy that a lot. I blog my hair journey at www.GeekyCurly.com
and take photos all day for my Instagram @GeekyCurly. My goals are to encourage others to accept the beauty that was given to them and especially teach young girls about self worth and self respect.
How long have you been natural? Why did you go natural? My last relaxer was in summer of ’06. I did not feel that relaxers were necessary in my life at the time. Especially since I had just moved to Florida and didn’t want to hunt for a hairdresser. Plus, my coarse hair never took relaxers as well as expected.
What is your hair type and texture? Ummm, my hair ranges from 3c to 4a I guess. It is thick and coarse.
What products and techniques work best for your hair type/texture? I am very minimalistic with my hair. I only use water, organic shampoo bars (or mud), and East African Shea Butter.
What is your hair regimen and how does it fit into your busy schedule? I wash my hair weekly and wear twists most of the time. It wasn’t until I started wearing twists that my hair broke past the collarbone length. Now it has flourished. I wear the twists 3-5 days and can twist-out 3-5 days depending on how my scalp feels.
Any additional advice? Read ingredients of products you try. As you move forward, you will be able to better guess if your hair will like a new product just by reading the first few ingredients. Don’t expect a product to work for you just because someone with the same curl pattern loves it.
