Black Hair Media Forum Rules

Black Hair Media Forum Rules
Welcome to the Black Hair Media community! This forum exists to connect Black women (and everyone who cares about Black hair and beauty) through real conversation, shared experience, and mutual support. A few ground rules keep this a space people actually want to come back to.
General Conduct
Be respectful. Disagreements happen — that’s fine. Personal attacks, insults, and harassment are not. Critique ideas, not people.
No hate speech or discrimination. Zero tolerance for racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or any content that demeans a person or group based on identity.
No bullying, shaming, or pile-ons. This includes hair-shaming, texture-shaming, or judging someone’s hair choices, routine, or journey.
Keep it appropriate. No explicit sexual content, graphic violence, or content otherwise inappropriate for a general audience.
One account per person. Impersonating another member or creating multiple accounts to evade a ban isn’t allowed.
Posting Guidelines
Post in the right category. Helps keep discussions organized and easy to find later.
Use clear, searchable titles. “Help — dye job disaster, what do I do?” is more useful to future readers than “Ugh.”
No spam or unsolicited self-promotion. This includes posting affiliate links, unrelated business promotion, or repeatedly plugging your own page/shop/channel outside of any designated promo space.
No misinformation. Especially around health, chemical safety, or medical claims — if you’re sharing a tip or warning, say where it came from rather than presenting it as established fact.
English preferred, so moderators can review posts and the community can follow along — exceptions can be discussed with moderators.
Privacy & Safety
Don’t name specific individuals negatively. When discussing a bad experience with a stylist, salon, or brand, describe the experience without calling out a person’s full name — the goal is sharing the story, not public callouts.
Don’t share others’ personal information — full names, addresses, phone numbers, or private photos — without their consent.
Protect your own privacy too. Be thoughtful about how much identifying detail you share; we can’t guarantee anything posted publicly stays private.
Hair Horror Stories Category
Keep it first-person and real. These are your own experiences, in your own words.
No naming specific salons or stylists. Focus on what happened, not on publicly targeting a business or individual.
Submissions may be featured. Your story could be selected for a monthly featured article on the site. If chosen, we’ll contact you about how you’d like to be credited (username, first name, or anonymous) before anything is published.
Moderation
Moderators have final say on what stays up, what gets edited, and who gets warned or removed. Decisions are made to protect the community, not to silence disagreement.
Report, don’t retaliate. If you see a rule broken, report it (or flag it to a moderator) rather than escalating it yourself.
Consequences for violations may include post/thread removal, warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent ban for repeated or serious violations.
One Last Thing
These rules exist so this stays a place people trust and want to return to. When in doubt, ask yourself: would I be comfortable saying this to someone’s face, in a room full of people who love this community as much as I do?
